When I have a natural stick in my hand, I sometimes think of the ancient human instinct for tools from pre-history.
Most people think ceramics only involve dishes and bowls or large sculptures but I love the intrinsic qualities of clay. I wish to explore the material of clay and present its possibilities.
I feel that a stick like form symbolizes the origin of human identity.
-棒/sticks-
棒を手にするとき、有史以前より人類が素材を道具に利用し生きてきた感覚や本能を思うことがあります。
やきものを扱う上で「うつわ」は尤もなこととしてありますが、わたしにとって棒をつくることは、うつわも含む大きな範疇で“ヒトと道具”の起源を想像することに繋がっていきます。
棒は、そんなモノづくりの原風景を象徴するかたちのように感じるのです。
